Club Finals – Day 1
6.9.25 – This morning the first session of the Final’s Weekend saw the semi-finals of the Robert Faulds take place along with the final of the Handicap Pairs. The two Robert Faulds matches featured some great drawing with Matt D edging passed Rosalind 21 – 11 and, after a marathon 27 ends, James squeezing passed Caroline 21 – 18. In the Handicap Pairs, a close final saw Matt E and Vera step up a gear in the second half to beat Mark and Neil 24 – 18.
Session 2 saw a tight game between Neil and Barry in the Yardstick, with Neil just getting ahead in the last few ends to win 35 – 23. The Ladies’ 3 – 2 – 1 could not have been closer with Caroline and Gail locked at 60 – 60 after the completion of their 20 ends. On the sudden death extra end, it was Gail who took the shot bowl to win the game 61 – 60. Another real battle took place in the Ladies’ Handicap between Sue F and Claire T but, with Claire closing in, it was Sue who held on to take the win 21 – 15.
In the final session Sue F and Rosalind played another competitive game in the Ladies’ 2-Woods, but it was Sue who took the title with a 16 – 8 win. The last match to finish was the Club Handicap between Matt E and Neil. With Matt starting strongly the gap widened as he pulled away to lead 15 to Neil’s minus 1. With some accurate drawing by both players the gap was reduced and it was Neil who just pulled through to take the win by 21 shots to 18.
