The Annual Match Between the Ladies and the Men

On Sunday afternoon the annual match between the Ladies and the Men took place, with 13 ladies and 15 men taking to the green, playing  for the Memorial Cup, and the chance to avoid the washing up! The first round consisted of 4 triples matches and with everyone playing, substitutes were allowed. Three points were awarded for each rink won, two points for a draw and one for a loss. At the end of the triples the men had a narrow lead 9 – 3. Determined to get their own back in the pairs, again played out over 6 ends, the ladies did just that, winning on four rinks, drawing on one and losing on one, leaving the overall scores level at 18 – 18. After a short and much needed break for tea and cake the afternoon resumed with six singles matches. Each match was played over 12 ends, with each player playing either 4 or 6 ends, depending on the number of players drawn on each rink. This time the men got the edge, winning on four rinks, drawing on one and losing on one. A great afternoon of fun, friendship and high quality bowling saw the Men just retain the Memorial Cup by 33 points to 27. A big thank you to all the players, to Sue F for her help with the organisation, to Anita, Luke, Pete and Richard S for doing most of the setting up of the rinks, to everyone who brought cakes for tea, to Barry for his support throughout the afternoon and to the Ladies for their excellent washing up!
