10th Merton Primary Schools’ Tournament

17.6.25 – Today over at West Wimbledon BC we had the 10th Merton Primary Schools’ Bowls Tournament take place. Wimbledon Park were supporting the two teams from Holy Trinity Primary, joined by a couple of helpers from Merton Park BC. Holy Trinity’s two teams of Year 5 children played in the round-robin tournament against two teams of Year 6 children from Holymount Primary School. Surrey Men’s President Dave Aburn and Vice President David Tucker attended the event and were joined by the new Mayor of Merton, Councillor Martin Whelton who arrived during the last session ahead of the presentations. The tournament itself ran really smoothly, in no small part due to WPBC’s involvement, led by Barry and ably supported by Caroline, Rosalind and Yvonne. A huge thank you to them all for giving up their day to make the day so special for the children.

The children had a wonderful day with glowing comments from the Surrey President who said… Thank you for the thanks, the day was run extremely well, the children were brilliant and a credit to their schools and it was a pleasure being part of their day. Take care, Dave.

As to the tournament itself, 6 points were awarded for the nearest bowl to the jack, then 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1. After the round-robin had been completed, Holymount emerged as the winners with a total points score of 390 as opposed to Holy Trinity’s 330. The Refspect award, going to the school who showed the most sporting and respectful behaviour, went to Holy Trinity. A great day had by all!
