Wimbledon and District Finals – Day 2

On Sunday, Day 2 of the District Finals’ Weekend started with the Top 10 competition between Wimbledon Park and Temple. In the Singles, Temple got off to a great start leading 6 – 0 against Neil after four ends. Having settled in on quite a tricky rink, Neil mounted a comeback, going on to win 21 – 11. In the Pairs Anne and Martin found that Temple again got off to a good start and they were 2 – 7 down after 6 ends before picking up a 5 to level the game. Further close ends took place with WPBC beginning to build a lead which saw them 13 – 9 up after 14 ends. Not to be outdone Temple seemed to up their game winning the last four ends to take the match 23 – 13. In the Triples Jackie, Vera and Pete started well leading 9 – 4 after 6 ends, but once again Temple came back at them and led 19 – 15 with two ends remaining. Two counts of two on the last two ends was enough to get the draw at 19 – 19. In the Fours Jay, Caroline, Richard S and Dave found Temple in fine form and they were 11 – 4 down after 9 ends and 18 – 4 down after 13 ends. A strong finish for WPBC saw them close the gap to 11 – 19 at the end. Overall result WPBC 64 – Temple 72.

In the second session, Neil was 0 – 4 down to Southey after 4 ends kin the Over-60 Singles, but settled to his drawing game, going on  to take the win 21 – 5.

In the third session the Men’s Triples saw Pete, Martin and Neil involved in a close game with Temple and with the scores at 7 – 4 after 8 ends, they managed to pick up a count of 6 when a weighty bowl from the Temple skip went wrong. In the second half WPBC continued to draw well and to see Temple have a few unlucky breaks and hands were shaken after 17 ends with Wimbledon Park the winners 23 – 9. 

In the Over-55 Mixed Pairs Anne and Neil had a very tight start against Southey and after 7 ends the scores were tied at 5 – 5. Unfortunately that was as close as it got and with Southey out-drawing Wimbledon Park in the second half it was all over after 17 ends with Southey winning 18 – 8.
