A Great Result in the League as we Defeat the Unbeaten League Leaders

29.6.19 – This afternoon we visited league leaders, Streatham Park for our latest league match. Playing the league leaders, unbeaten in 2019 and with only 10 bowlers available, things were going to be tough, but what a response from the Wimbledon Park bowlers. Despite the heat which had reduced the game to 16 ends, in accordance with Bowls England’s recommendations to play the minimum number of permitted ends on the hottest day of the year, Claire, George and Martin pulled away to lead 10 – 4 after 8 ends. The second half saw them continue to draw well going on to win 19 – 9 (reduced to 14 – 9 with the 25% reduction for playing with one player short). Ange, Richard, Sabrina and Ossie led 15 – 5 at half way but a resurgent Streatham Park won 6 of the 8 remaining ends, including picking up a ‘Hot Shot’ count of 8 to edge the win 20 – 19. Anne, Mike and Neil led 8 – 5  after 8 ends, but drew well in the second half to win 19 – 8 (reduced to 14 – 8 after the 25% reduction). Match result a tremendous win 8 – 2 (47 shots to 37).
