Day 2 of The District Finals

14.9.25 – Day 2 of the District Finals’ Weekend got underway as we took on Belmont in the Top 10 Final. In the Singles Neil managed to win 21 – 11. In the Pairs, Claire T and Martin, were 8 – 11 after nine ends and despite both playing some great bowls in the second half, went down 8 – 29. In the Triples, Jackie, Anne and Richard S were 3 – 6 after 7 ends, before Belmont pulled away to win 19 – 6. In the Fours, Belmont showed their strength from the start leading 13 – 3 after 9 ends and ending up winning 22 – 6. Final score Wimbledon Park 41 – Belmont 71.

Session 2 saw Neil play Southey in the Over-60 Singles. With his opponent off to a great start Neil trailed 3 – 10, before clawing his way back to win 21 – 15.
Session 3 featured the final of the Men’s Singles with Neil up against Belmont. In what turned out to be a 26-end marathon, Neil narrowly lost 18 – 21.
The last session of the weekend had Jackie and Neil up against Wandilea/Belmont in an attempt to retain their Mixed Pairs title. Picking up five shots on the first end helped WPBC to settle and , with all four bowlers playing some great bowls, it was Wimbledon Park who held on to win 18 – 10.
Congratulations to all of the finalists with huge thanks to our supporters… Gail, Richard F and Rosalind, as well as to those who were able to stay on after the Top 10. A special thank you to Barry, Claire T and Matt D who stayed and supported right to the very end of the last match. It was wonderful to see that Wimbledon Park were the most successful club in the District Competitions this year, winning the Mixed Singles, Over 60 Singles, Mixed Pairs, Men’s Paris and Men’s Triples and finishing as Runners-Up in the Top 10, Men’s Singles and Mixed Fours – an amazing achievement!
