The Last League Game of the Season

17.9.23 – This afternoon we had our last league game of the season as we welcomed Merton to the green. In a kind gesture Merton allowed all  14 of our available players to play with 4 bowlers playing half a game each. With the forecast predicting thunder and heavy rain it was agreed to shorten the game to 16 ends. Despite heavy rain early on, the last half an hour was played in bright sunshine. Caroline, Mark, Richard F and Martin led 10 – 1 after 9 ends, but three ends later and the scores were level at 10 – 10, before a strong finish saw WPBC win the game 17 – 12. Dez, Claire W/Bob, Luke and Neil led 8 – 5 after 7 ends, but a strong second half from Merton saw them take the game 18 – 13. Sue F, Gail/Rosalind, Anne and Claire T led 4 – 1 after 5 ends, before Merton pulled away to lead 18 – 6 with three ends to play. A good finish for WPBC saw the gap narrow to 12 – 18. Match result 2 – 8 (42 shots to 48.)
