Two District Competitions Completed at Wimbledon Park

July 22nd – this evening Martin took on Belmont in the District Champion of Champions Competition. In a high quality game his opponent started well opening up a lead, only for Martin to narrow the gap with some tidy drawing bowls. Unfortunately dropping a large count aided his opponent and despite a valiant effort it was the Belmont bowler who advanced to the quarter-final with a 21- 15 win. Also at home, Barry, Derek, Neil and Jonathan played Wandilea in the District Men’s Fours. After dropping a count of 6 on the first end, the WPBC bowlers managed to take the lead 9 – 7 after 6 ends, before pushing ahead to lead 20 – 13 after 17 ends. Dropping six shots in the next three ends left them only one shot ahead playing the final end, but in an end which saw each of the team have a counting bowl Wimbledon Park emerged the winners by 24 shots to 19. WPBC now have club members in a quite astounding 18 District Quarter-finals.
