Club Finals – Day 1
Saturday was the first day of the Club Finals’ Weekend and what a day it was! With 30 club members down at the green either playing, officiating or supporting, it truly was a day to be proud of and that’s before we get into the bowling.
In the first session three tight games took place with Sue R taking the first set in the Joan White Sets Competition against Vera. In set 2 the scores were level after 6 of the 7 ends before Vera took the final end to level the match at one set each. After a close encounter Vera took the third set to win the game by two sets to one. In the Ladies’ Handicap there was another close game with Caroline leading Anne 13 – 5 and 18 – 12, before Anne mounted a come back, just getting the win by the closest of margins 21 – 20. In the Handicap Pairs there was a bit of a roller coaster with Matt E and Pete leading Anita and Neil 8 – 6 after 6 ends. 6 ends later Anita and Neil led 15 – 8, before Matt and Pete won 7 of the last 9 ends to win 22 – 17.
In the second session, the rink seemed to have a big impact on the Yardstick competition played between Richard S and Pete. With both players finding it hard to get the bowls to settle on the driest parts of the green, it was Pete who managed the better taking the title by 27 points to 11. In the Club 2-Wood Singles, Jackie got away to a great start against Neil picking up a two on the first end and a single on end two. After 9 ends, the scores were still close with Jackie ahead 7 – 5 and after 12 ends it was 8 – 8. In the remaining ends Neil just managed to edge ahead to win 16 – 10.
In the final session the draw for the Robert Faulds’ Semi-Final saw Matt E playing Vera and Dez playing James. With some high quality bowls from each player, James booked his place in the final by beating Dez 21 – 5 and Matt booked his place by beating Vera 21 – 8 to set up tomorrow morning’s final. A great day for the club under the ever watchful eyes of our competition secretary Richard F.

Got something to say?
