Club Finals – Day 1

3.9.22 Today saw 5 finals played, as well as the round robin stage of the Robert Faulds’ Competition. There was a roller coaster of a final in the Ladies ‘Joan White Sets’ competition, where Sabrina took the first set 9 – 1, only for Claire T to bounce back and win the second set 6 – 4. In the deciding set, Sabrina closed out the game 8 – 1. In the Club Handicap, Richard F started strongly, opening up an 18 – 9 lead. Digging deep, Anne countered with scores of 3, 2, 1 and 3 to level the score. The final four ends saw Anne complete the comeback to win 21 – 20.

The Ladies’ 2 Woods saw the lead change hands no less than 6 times, before Gail took control, winning the last 6 ends to take the title 16 – 9. In the Club 2 Woods, there was a battle royal which went right down to the last bowl of the 21st end. With Martin holding a very close shot bowl, it was Barry who played the perfect final bowl to draw to the jack and retain the title 15 – 14.
The opening stages of the Robert Faulds’ Competition saw 9 players each play 4 games. At the end, Bobby and Mary emerged as group winners, just ahead of Matthew and Alison. Thanks to Luke for overseeing the competition.

The last final was between Anne and Barry, who took on Rosalind and Neil in the Handicap Pairs. Winning 13 of the 18 ends played, Rosalind and Neil secured the win 22 – 14.
