Club Finals – Day 2

4.9.22 Today saw the remaining 7 club finals played out over 3 sessions. In the Ladies’ Handicap, Claire T prevented Anne from completing the Handicap double with a 21 – 15 win. In the 4 Wood Points, Neil edged out Pete 81 – 69.
Session 2 saw a close encounter between Bobby and Peter in the 3 Wood Yardstick. With only one point in it with three ends to go, Bobby upped a gear to secure the win 33 points to 28. In the Open Singles, played over sets of 7 ends, Neil took a very tight first set 5 – 2. The second set also went to Neil, 9 – 4, giving him the title 2 sets to 0.

The day concluded with the Ladies’ and Men’s Championships and the final of the Robert Faulds’ competition. First to finish was the Robert Faulds with Bobby beating Mary 21 – 12. In a very close game, the Men’s final could have been won by either player, thanks to some great drawing and equally good defensive play. At the end Neil just edged the game 21 – 19. The Ladies’ final turned out to be a marathon, going to 30 ends. With Anne playing strongly early on she built an 11 – 5 lead, before Claire pulled back to 11 – 10. Anne again opened up a lead 19 – 14, before Claire pegged back to 19 – 18. It was another three ends before the result was secured with Claire taking the title 21 – 20.
