District Top 10 Semi-Final v Southey

On Friday evening we welcomed Southey to the green for the Semi-Final of the District Top 10 competition. In the Singles, Neil had a close game with the scores level at 8 – 8 after 13 ends and just a two shot lead at 12 – 10 four ends later. A regular change of mat and jack length over the remaining ends seemed to unsettle his opponent with Neil going onto win 21 – 11. In the Pairs, Claire T and Martin also had a close game with the scores tied at 6 – 6 after 8 ends and 10 – 10 five ends later. With WPBC going into the final end 14 – 12 ahead, it was Southey who finished with a three to edge the game 15 – 14. In the Triples, Jackie, Vera and Pete started strongly leading 10 – 2 after 9 ends. Continuing to draw well in the second half and overall winning 12 ends to 6, WPBC took the win by 23 shots to 8. In the Fours, Anne, Mark. Richard S and Dave got off to a good start leading 7 – 1 after 5 ends. With Southey winning 11 of the next 12 ends the final end began with WPBC six behind at 9 – 15. A four to us on the last end narrowed the gap, with Southey taking the win 15 – 13. Match result WPBC 71 – 49 Southey and a place for us in our 4th District Final.
