First League Away Win

July 8th – This afternoon Wimbledon Park visited Colliers Wood for the second away league match of the season. Anne, Rosalind, Pete and Martin got off to a flying start with 6 shots on the first end. They developed this in to a 17 – 2 lead after 8 ends and ended up winning 30 – 10. Sabrina, Betty, Vernon and Barry found the end rink  to be a challenge. Despite staying in close contention in the early exchanges, 6 – 7 after 9 ends became 8 – 18 after 16 ends. A final push from Wimbledon Park, and a 25% deduction awaiting their opponents who unfortunately had to bowl with only 3 players, left WPBC needing 2 shots on the last end to win the game. Holding 4 shots as the skips went to bowl the opposition skip caught an edge with his first bowl to drop in for shot. Final score 13 – 15. George, Helen, Ossie and Neil were 9 – 0 up at 5 ends, a lead which was cut to 3 shots 4 ends later as Colliers Wood closed the gap to 8 – 11. The next 10 ends went to Wimbledon Park leaving the result at 32 – 6 (after another 25% deduction for the home team, who again had to play with a player short). Match result 8 – 2 (75 shots to 31).
