Mixed Fortunes in the Surrey Pairs

June 8th – This evening Pete and Martin hosted Heathfield in the Surrey Pairs. In a very close game everything came down to the final two ends where Wimbledon Park trailed 15 – 20. Picking up a count of three on the 20th end set up a nail-biting finish, with the green becoming more erratic everything hinged on a final last-end measure which resulted in WPBC picking up the three shots required to edge the game 21 – 20. Over at Colliers Wood, Barry and Neil found themselves struggling on another erratic green. Losing 7 ends in a row saw them 3 – 14 behind after 10 ends. After digging in, the deficit was reduced to 5 shots after 17 ends at 12 – 17. Unfortunately for WPBC some telling final bowls from the Colliers Wood skip saw Wimbledon Park knocked out with a 14 – 21 defeat.
