Two Tight Tussles in Tonight’s District Semi-finals

Aug 30th – This evening up at Heathfield Wimbledon Park played two District Semi-finals. First to finish were Sabrina, Barry and Neil playing in the Bill Simpson Mixed Triples. A great start saw them pick up 5 of the available 6 shots on the first end, but their opponents from Wandilea levelled the score at 6 – 6 after 6 ends and again at 9 – 9 after 9 ends. The second half started well for WPBC who opened up an 8 shot lead with 4 ends to play. Wandilea duly responded winning the final three ends but accumulating 7 shots in the process leaving Wimbledon Park to advance to the Final with a very close 18 – 17 win.

In the second Semi-final, Pete and Martin played Mitcham in the Men’s Pairs. Half way in to the game, with the light already beginning to fade, Mitcham led 14 – 9. With 8 of the next 9 ends going to Wimbledon Park, and the game being played in almost complete darkness, the last end started with WPBC leading 19 – 16. The final bowl of the 21st end saw Mitcham push out Wimbledon Park’s shot bowl. The measure revealed that Mitcham had managed to pick up two shots, leaving Pete and Martin with a hard fought place in the Final on 10th September and a winning score of 19 – 18.
