Two Tough District Competitions

This afternoon Vanessa (Mitcham) and Neil played away at Southey in the District Mixed Pairs Competition. Having lost the first 4 ends to singles they bounced back to take the lead, a lead which changed hands no less than five times during the game. By 15 ends Vanessa/Neil had built up a lead of 14 shots to 7, only for their opponents to pick up six shots without reply to close the gap. Dropping a four on the 20th end gave their opponents a two shot lead; with their opponents holding shots on the final end Neil managed to ‘no end’ the jack and on the replayed end a four saw Vanessa and Neil through to the next round after a very close game.

This evening Barry, Vernon, Martin and Neil played Heathfield in the District Fours Competition. After a delayed start in which Heathfield very kindly agreed to wait to start the game, it was Heathfield who started well leading 7 – 2 after 5 ends. By 11 ends however WPBC had taken the lead at 10 – 8, only for their opponents to level once again at 15 ends. Unfortunately for Wimbledon Park their visitors won four of the final five played ends to win 21 – 13.
