Bowls…It’s All About The Draw!

This afternoon Wimbledon Park visited Merton for the latest Mid-week league game. Playing on a green which was considerably heavier than their home green, drawing was at times quite a problem. Derek, Vernon and Barry, got off to a flying start and after 9 ends led 16 – 3, a lead which they maintained until the 14th end with the score at 19 – 6. Merton however had not finished and the last four ends saw them pick up 9 shots to WPBC’s 3, leaving Wimbledon Park the winning rink by 22 shots to 15. Alf, Neil and Jonathan kept things tight early on with the scores locked at 6 – 6 after 8 ends. The remaining ends however went to the home side as Merton finished the game 17 – 10 ahead. Match result… a draw! 4 – 4 (32 shots to 32).

This evening Barry, Martin and Neil began the defence of their District Triples title playing away at Bolingbroke. In a topsy-turvy game Wimbledon Park won 5 ends on the trot to lead 15 – 3 after 6 ends, only for Bolingbroke to win the next 5 ends to reduce the lead to 15 – 9. The last 7 ends saw the points shared equally, leaving Wimbledon Park with their ninth District Quarter-final place after a 21- 15 victory.
