Club Finals – Day 1

1.9.18 – The Club Finals got off to a great start today with 23 club members down at the green during the day. The Robert Faulds Competition, organised brilliantly by Luke, assisted by Ossie, took place during the day with 11 players taking part in two round robin groups, played over 6 ends. In Group A, Claire finished top with 13 points, Matt was Runner-Up with 11 points and incredibly the remaining 4 players all finished with 9 points. In Group B, it was equally tight with John B finishing top with 10 points and a three way tie for second, which was won by Ange on shots difference. The semi-finals saw John B beat Matt and Ange beat Claire. In the morning’s finals Anne was level with Sabrina at 13 – 13 after 13 ends in the Ladies’ Handicap, before Sabrina took a 3, 2, 3, to close out the game. In the Club Handicap Barry led Neil 10 – 4, before Neil levelled at 11 – 11. Barry pulled away again to lead 20 – 14, before Neil again levelled at 20 – 20, before Barry took the shot required to win 21 – 20.shots on the final end to win 19 – 18.

After a lovely lunch (thank you to everyone who kindly contributed to it), the Joan White memorial Sets Competition was narrowly won by Alison who edged out Ange 5 – 3, 9 -7. In the Club Open Championship there was another close final with Barry taking the title against Vernon by 2 sets to 1, 9 – 3, 6 – 7, 9 – 1. The Handicap 2-Wood Pairs, could not have been tighter. Matt and Rosalind opened up a 15 – 7 lead after 12 ends, before Claire and Neil clawed their way back to level at 17 – 17 after 19 ends, going on to take two shots on the final end to win 19 – 18. In the last game of the afternoon Pete played Neil in the 4 Wood Points, a game which went the full distance with Neil just squeezing through 76 – 74.
