District Finals

Today saw the culmination of the 2017 Wimbledon and District competitions as the finals took place up at Heathfield BC. The first session saw Pete and Martin take on Southey in the Men’s Pairs. In a close contest, from the first to the last end, the lead changed hands no less than 8 times before Southey emerged as the winners taking a single shot on the 21st end to win 19 – 18. Wimbledon Park’s second match in the first session saw Sabrina, Barry and Neil play the home club of Heathfield in the ‘Bill Simpson’ 2-wood Mixed Triples. Close exchanges took place early on with single shots being won on the opening 5 ends. Unfortunately for WPBC the first half belonged to Heathfield who led 13 – 1 after 9 ends. A brief come back saw the gap narrow but it was not to be sustained and Heathfield continued their dominance to win 17 – 8.

The second session saw Sabrina take on Colliers Wood in the Ladies’ Singles. With her opponent settling quickly the score was 1 – 7 after 6 ends, 2 ends later Sabrina had closed the gap to 5 – 7 but that was as close as it got as Colliers Wood went on to win 21 – 10. The final match saw Neil play Raynes Park in the Men’s Singles. Once again the game did not start too well for Wimbledon Park and Neil found himself 3 – 8 down after 5 ends. The remainder of the game however belonged to Neil who recovered to take the title with a 21 – 8 win.

Thanks to Helen, George, Christine and Rosalind for their support at Heathfield and to Ange for her kind messages of support.
